In the late 1960ies a worldwide unique underground dancefloor movement arose in North-England: "NORTHERN SOUL". It focused on rare and until then unknown US-Soul Singles of the 1960ies and let thousands of youngsters in the often depressing industrial cities like Manchester, Blackpool or Newcastle - forgetting about their everyday life - dance excessively all night long.
The documentary 45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE shows how this phenomenon found its way to Vienna (Austria) and what kind of strategies record shop owners, organisers and deejays use to keep the scene alive to date. It presents Soul artists finding their musical home in Vienna, introduces dancers, fans or collectors and captures their attitude and awareness towards the music.
45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE is a documentary about life, passion, dreams and old vinyl - a film about Soul in Vienna.

About the project:
Soul is in line with the current trend. New radio stations like "Superfly", "FM4" and also internet radios count on this phenomenon. If nothing else, more and more youngsters from various styles of music like for example Hip Hop, Indie, House or Neo Ska are attracted by chart music of singers like "Amy Winehouse" and "Duffy". The target audience of 45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE are persons in the age of 20 to 50 years. They participate actively in nightlife, are interested in music and culture, enjoy being individualists and find themselves in all kind of social levels.
The documentary attracts notice to the protagonists, the music and the locations, to give the audience an understanding of the particular lifestyle and the fun with Soul. A few comparable films about Soul were produced in England like the legendary Granada TV documentary "This is England" (UK 1977 - 26 min), the Channel 4 documentary "Soul Nation" (UK 2003 - 3 x 50 min) or the BBC 4 documentary "Soul Britannia" (UK 2007 - 3 x 60 min)
45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE is therefore the first documentary concentrating itself on the specific music scene in Vienna. It will convince the audience through insights into individual environments, the pleasure of the protagonists and last but not least through an exclusive musical experience.

Rare und bis dato unbekannte US-Soul Singles aus den Sechziger Jahren ließen tausende von Jugendlichen aus Manchester, Leeds oder Newcastle in nächtelangen Tanzexzessen die Eintönigkeit des nordenglischen Alltags vergessen.
Wie das Tanzphänomen Soul nach Wien kam und mit welchen Strategien Plattenladenbesitzer, Veranstalter und DJs bis heute die Szene am Leben erhalten, wie schwarze Soulkünstler in Wien ihre musikalische Heimat finden und was das besondere Lebensgefühl von Soul bei Tänzern, Fans und Plattensammlern bewirkt, zeigt der Dokumentarfilm 45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE.
45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE geht auf Entdeckungsreise in die Wiener Underground Soul-Szene.

Soul liegt im Trend. Neue Radiosender wie "Superfly", aber auch "FM4" und Internetradios setzen auf dieses Phänomen. Nicht zuletzt ziehen Musikstücke der Sängerinnen "Amy Winehouse" und "Duffy" immer mehr Jugendliche aus unterschiedlichen Musikrichtungen, wie etwa HipHop und Ska an. Die Kernzielgruppe von 45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE sind Personen im Alter von 20-45 Jahren. Sie nehmen aktiv am Nachtleben teil, interessieren sich für Musik und Kultur, sind IndividualistInnen und finden sich in allen Schichten wieder.
Der Dokumentarfilm rückt die ProtagonistInnen, die Musik und die Orte in den Vordergrund, um das besondere Lebensgefühl und den Spaß am Soul näher zu bringen. In England wurden einige wenige vergleichbare Filme zum Thema Soul wie etwa die legendäre Granada TV-Dokumentation "This is England" (UK 1977 - 26 min), die Channel 4 Dokumentation "Soul Nation" (UK 2003 - 3 x 50 min) oder die BBC 4 Dokumentation "Soul Britannia" (UK 2007 - 3 x 60 min), produziert.
45 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE ist somit der erste Dokumentarfilm, der sich dieser spezifischen Musikszene in Wien widmet. Er wird durch das exklusive Musikerlebnis, die Freude am Soul und mit Einblicken in individuelle Lebenswelten überzeugen.
